Remnant 2: The Sequel That Hits The Bullseye

Remnant 2 is back, and this time it’s not just “Dark Souls with guns”, it’s a whole new level of awesomeness! The sequel takes everything that made the first game great and cranks it up to eleven. The gunplay is tighter, the locales are more diverse, and the character progression has been expanded upon, giving you a near-limitless replayability. But don’t worry, it still retains that signature Remnant charm with a few humorous missteps along the way.

Let’s start with the not-so-great news. The story in Remnant 2 is still forgettable and lacks personality, almost like a copy and paste of the original. You’ll find yourself following a familiar path, from the post-apocalyptic streets of Earth to a small settlement called Ward 13. The characters you encounter feel like cardboard cutouts, with little depth or development. It’s hard to care about saving the world when it only consists of a dozen people. But hey, who needs a captivating story when the gameplay is this good?

Speaking of gameplay, Remnant 2 knocks it out of the park. The procedural generation creates a dynamic and unpredictable experience. Each playthrough generates randomly generated realms and dungeons, and even enemy placement changes every time you reload or rest. The combat scenarios are filled with tension and excitement, making each encounter a thrill.

But it doesn’t stop there. Remnant 2 takes procedural generation to the next level by dynamically generating almost every aspect of your adventure. Boss fights, side quests, NPCs, and even the opening tutorial are different for every player. This means you’ll never have the same experience twice, and it keeps the game feeling fresh and exciting.

When you first arrive at Ward 13, you’ll choose from a selection of Archetypes, each with its own starting weapons and armor. But here’s the twist: each Archetype also comes with perks and skills that unlock as you level up. This adds a whole new layer of strategy to the game, as you’ll need to carefully choose your Archetype based on your playstyle. And if you want to mix things up, you can discover other Archetypes throughout the game and swap them out whenever you like. The possibilities are endless!

As you progress through the game, you’ll also have the opportunity to equip rings, amulets, and mods to enhance your build even further. These mods can be applied to weapons to create alternate fire modes, adding a whole new level of creativity to combat. Unleashing a helix of missiles or surprising enemies with a horde of angry space crabs is just the tip of the iceberg.

The visuals in Remnant 2 are a sight to behold. The realms you explore are bursting with color and variety, offering a visual feast for the eyes. From gaudy castles to Yharnam-adjacent towns, each area brings its own unique style and atmosphere. And with more verticality and larger areas, you’ll never know where enemies might come at you from next.

Sure, there are a few flaws in Remnant 2. The final realm can feel frustrating due to an artificial difficulty spike, and the story is forgettable. But when it comes down to it, Remnant 2 is an addictive and entertaining shooter that will keep you hooked for hours on end. So grab your guns, choose your Archetype, and get ready for an adventure you won’t soon forget!
