The ’90s nostalgia train never seems to run out of steam. Remember Gargoyles? That underrated gem of a cartoon series from the loud and proud decade? Well, brace yourself because it seems like these supernatural statues are about to make a grand leap into the modern age with a live-action movie! And guess what? We might already have a big-name director on board!

For those who might’ve let Gargoyles slip from their memories since the good ol’ days, let’s refresh those memories. This ’90s cartoon had a unique premise where a bunch of supernatural beings from a thousand years ago were frozen in stone and revived in modern-day New York. Sounds cool, right? Well, it gets even better! Gargoyles won over audiences with its mature tone and gripping storylines. Finally, it looks like the fans are in for a splendid vindication!

A thrilling rumor has surfaced that a live-action Gargoyles movie is in the works. And hold on to your wings because it seems like the project might be helmed by none other than famed director Kenneth Branagh! Yes, the very same director who brought us 2011’s Thor and wowed us with his top-witted detective Hercule Poirot. This rumor first emerged from the folks at Giant Freakin Robot, and even though they’ve been known to sometimes mislead us, their claim gained some serious traction when the Belfast Telegraph added fuel to the fire. So, while we’re not stating it as fact just yet, these whispers are growing stronger, and that’s definitely good news!

Now, let’s take a moment to remember the magnificence of Gargoyles. It graced our TV screens from 1994 to 1997 as part of the legendary Disney Afternoon block. The concept alone of nocturnal creatures waking up from their stony slumber to protect the city was enough to pique curiosity, but the stellar voice cast sealed the deal. We had the legendary Keith David lending his voice to the lead character Goliath, and the late Ed Asner (Carl from Pixar’s Up) as the wise gargoyle Hudson. Alongside them, we had Jeff Bennett, Salli Richardson, and the iconic voice actor Frank Welker gracing our ears with their talent.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time rumors have swirled around a Gargoyles movie. The idea was first floated before the series even ended, but unfortunately, the film project got scrapped after the finale. However, in 2011, there was a glimmer of hope when a script was being worked on by David Elliot and Paul Lovett, the same writers who brought us the blockbuster action flick G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. We’re not sure if this new rumored project will be based on their script or have any connection to previous attempts, but either way, it’s thrilling to have some news about our beloved stone protectors.

As for the cast of the live-action movie, we’re left in suspense. Will any of the original stars make a grand return? Only time will tell. Remember, all this buzz is still just a rumor, albeit one that seems highly likely. But if Branagh can work his directorial magic and capture our hearts as he did on-screen, then we might just witness the epic comeback of our favorite stoney heroes – the Gargoyles!
