Bustling California City Life Sim in the Works!

Big news for all you life sim fans out there! A former Stardew Valley developer, Mr. Podunkian, is putting their skills to the test with their own upcoming game. But forget about quaint farms and cozy villages, because this time we’re diving headfirst into the hustle and bustle of a vibrant California city.

Based on a Twitter revelation by myPotatoGames, it seems that this unnamed city life sim already has fans hyped up. And no wonder, considering Mr. Podunkian’s previous involvement in Stardew Valley, alongside the legendary Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone. That’s right, folks – this game is going to have the same heart and soul that made Stardew Valley so special.

According to Mr. Podunkian, they were brought in to lend a hand with Stardew Valley’s 1.4 and 1.6 updates. They tackled everything from pesky bugs to adding awesome features like the tailoring system and fish tanks. Their tireless efforts not only improved the game but also gave Barone precious time to work on their own masterpiece-in-the-making, Haunted Chocolatier (plus another secret project!). Talk about teamwork!

“This indie developer worked for ConcernedApe on Stardew Valley and is now off to making his own game. A farming and life sim game that takes place in the California area. Villagers, Farming, Gathering and crafting and so much more! Show Mr. Podunkian your support as he makes this…” – [@myPotatoGames]( (July 29, 2023)

While the game is still in its early stages, Mr. Podunkian has been giving us tantalizing glimpses of what’s to come on their Twitter account. And let me tell you, it looks absolutely smashing! The city is bursting with life – from charming coffee shops to swanky salons and mouth-watering restaurants. The pixel-art art style, reminiscent of Stardew Valley, adds even more charm to the game’s vibrant world.

Now, we don’t have a full list of features just yet, but here’s the scoop: the game is being developed using C#, along with a “heavily modified” version of the software MonoGame. Aren’t you itching to know more? According to Mr. Podunkian: “The engine was developed while I was [ConcernedApe’s] employee as a generic engine for Stardew-like games. He graciously allowed me to continue using it after I left the company as it was written entirely by me!” Talk about talent!

So, while we patiently wait for this exciting game to grace our screens, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on Mr. Podunkian’s progress. And if you’re itching for more Stardew Valley-likes in the meantime, why not check out Everholm, Roots of Pacha, Cleanup on Isle Goblin, Sun Haven, Coral Island, and Kynseed? There’s never a shortage of charming virtual worlds to explore!
