Baldur's Gate 3: Entering the Arcane Tower Guide

Fun and Interesting Game Guide for Baldur’s Gate 3

The Underdark is a massive and treacherous place, far more challenging than the surface world. Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 may have been a breeze, but brace yourself for the dangers that await you in the Arcane Tower!

Arcane Tower

How To Get Past The Turrets

As you approach the tower’s courtyard, be prepared for the turret’s watchful gaze upon your party. But fear not! You can outsmart these mechanical sentinels with a touch of sneakiness.

Stand at the ruins with your party, and let the turret keep its eyes on you. Meanwhile, unleash a party member skilled in the art of stealth. The courtyard is safe as long as you don’t step into it.

Now, it’s time for your rogue character to shine! Sneak through the courtyard, hopping across the red sights like a nimble acrobat. Remember to crouch when needed. If you take a hit or two, don’t worry; you can easily hide behind the pillars.

How To Get Through The Tower

Inside the Tower

Once inside the tower, two more turrets stand in your way, restricting your freedom. Ignore the non-functioning elevator in the middle of the room; it’s a waste of time.

Your goal is to reach the balcony doors on the left. To achieve this, you must swiftly sneak past the turret’s line of sight. It’s a thrilling challenge that requires precision and timing.

For this daring feat, having a Scroll of Featherfall can be a lifesaver. Jump from balcony to balcony, using the blue mushrooms as your stepping stones. Descend to the very bottom floor, where more secrets await.

How To Turn On The Elevator

Elevator Activation

Now, it’s time to bring the elevator back to life! As you reach the bottom floor, keep your eyes peeled for a pipe hole on the side of the building. A rat familiar or your druid’s animal form can slip through it. Alternatively, if you have a rogue, lockpick the door around the corner.

Inside, you’ll find a peculiar tree with two Sussur Blossoms at its base. Beware! These flowers drain your magical abilities. However, they hold the key to restoring power to the elevator.

Take the flowers and interact with the generator in the center of the room. It’s like crafting, but with a magical twist. Add a Sussur Blossom to the menu, and voila! The power is restored, and the turrets are disabled.

What To Say To Guardian Bernard

Guardian Bernard

With the elevator up and running, you can explore each floor of the tower in peace. But hold on! Before heading to the first floor, there’s a little challenge waiting for you.

Robots on the first floor won’t attack if you provide them with the correct response. To find the right answer, read the books scattered throughout the tower. Each book holds a clue, like a password to unlock Bernard’s goodwill.

Engage Bernard in dialogue, using the correct phrase from the books. This will make him and the Animated Armor passive, allowing you to proceed unharmed. There are three different dialogue options that can lead to different outcomes or rewards.

Dialogue Choice Book Result
“The silence stretches on – I’m all alone. / Please, can I hold your hands, for just a while?” Torn Paper on a table against the elevator on the floor before Bernard Bernard hugs you
“These empty sheets are all that’s left of you. / The last of all the thoughtless gifts you gave.” Parchment Paper near the table with Bernard Bernard gives you a Potion of Greater Healing
“There is a light in every living thing. / It’s crawling t’wards the surface to survive.” Dusty Book on the first level, where you entered Bernard will turn hostile
“How can I trust? How will I ever know? How can I show myself, my darkest me?” Threadbare Book on the floor above the generator room Bernard places a Guiding Light ring on the table

If you don’t see all the dialogue options, go back, reread the books, and speak to Bernard again.

How To Enter The Secret Basement

Secret Basement

If you’ve managed to make Bernard place down the ring of Guiding Light, equip it to reveal a secret button on the elevator. Press the button, and it will take you to the lowest level of the Arcane Tower—the owner’s secret laboratory.

Prepare yourself for the treasures that lie within:

  • Timmask Spore
  • Basilisk Oil
  • Staff of Arcane Blessing
  • Scroll of Hypnotic Pattern
  • The Sparkswall ring

Follow the natural path up from the secret basement, and you’ll unlock a passage to the generator room. Look for a lever next to the stone wall, and it will open a doorway to further adventures.

Unlocking The Mundane Chest

Mundane Chest

Last but not least, keep an eye out for the Mundane Chest. It may seem ordinary at first, filled with mundane items like a spoon and a cup. But don’t be fooled! There’s more to it than meets the eye.

Hover over the chest, and you’ll notice that the contents have a value of 691. With a successful Arcana check, your character will uncover the trick. However, passing the check is not necessary to claim the loot.

Place the items into your inventory, and watch them transform into valuable treasures. The Mundane Chest holds magical scrolls and Mystra’s Grace boots.

Now that you’re equipped with this knowledge, go forth and conquer the Arcane Tower! For more exciting adventures, check out our guide on Everything You Need To Know About Baldur’s Gate 3.
